MaryLynn Jacobs earned her BS in Rehabilitation Medicine from Springfield College, Springfield, MA and her MS from Boston University, Boston, MA. In 1992 she received her advanced certification in hand therapy (CHT).
Her academic, clinical and business expertise spans well over three decades. She has developed several hand therapy departments, consulted to physician practices, industry, hospitals, home health care agencies, and software development companies. She has been teaching hand therapy and upper extremity orthosis/splinting courses across the country for over 30 years.
MaryLynn co-edited and authored Orthotic Intervention of the Hand and Upper Extremity, Splinting Principles and Process: Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, 2013 now in its 2nd edition. The textbook is being revised and expanded with a 3rd edition due out in 2020. MaryLynn has contributed to the hand therapy literature with several journals and newspaper articles and co-authored Orthotics in the Management of Hand Dysfunction in Orthotics and Prosthetics in Rehabilitation, 2nd edition, Saunders/Elsevier, 2005.
MaryLynn co-founded Attain Therapy + Fitness, an 11-clinic company in Western MA that merged with ATI Physical Therapy in 2015. Presently she is VP of Operations (MA) and Senior Director of Hand Therapy services overseeing the national growth and development of hand therapy throughout ATI. She is a member of the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT), past ASHT chair of the Legislation and Reimbursement Committee and present chair of ASHT’s Practice Management Committee. She is on several advisory boards as well as a board member of The Springfield College Board of Trustees.
