Dr. John Grady-Benson is a Founding Member and the Chief Medical Officer for the Center for Outcomes Research at the Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute (CJRI). He is the strategic leader for all clinical initiatives at CJRI.

His primary focus in CJRI research projects, as well as his busy joint replacement practice, is on patient-derived outcomes: working for continuous quality improvement and improved healthcare value.

Dr. Grady-Benson graduated Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude from Brown University, and was President of his medical school class at Northwestern University in Chicago. He completed his general surgery internship at Hartford Hospital and his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in 1990.

He then served as an Adult Reconstruction Fellow at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla, California. Before returning to the Hartford area in 1996, Dr. Grady-Benson was on staff at the University of Michigan Medical Center, followed by the University of California San Diego, and The Scripps Clinic, in La Jolla. He has been Chief of Orthopedics at the VA Medical Centers in Ann Arbor and in San Diego.

Dr. Grady-Benson has received recognition as “Orthopedic Residency Teacher of the Year” at all of his university affiliates: U of M, UCSD, and UConn. Grady-Benson is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, an Associate Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, a partner at Orthopedic Associates of Hartford, PC, and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Outside of orthopedics, Dr. Grady-Benson enjoys wilderness hiking.
