Athletes with snapping hip syndrome or “dancer’s hip” hear a snapping or popping sound or feel a snapping sensation in their hip during some movements. It’s common to experience this while walking or bending at the hip. This condition happens when muscles or tendons (fibrous tissue that connects muscle to bone) rub over a bony structure in the hip. Snapping hip can occur at different locations in the hip. It usually doesn’t cause any harm or pain, but for some people, the condition can be painful and limit athletic performance.
